More than 35 years ago, The Clash released their classic fourth album 'Sandinista!' named for Nicaragua's Democratic Socialist party that spent the majority of their initial stretch in power fighting a U.S. backed militia that was partially funded by our government with the proceeds of illegal gun sales to Iran. After a 17 year hiatus the Sandinistas returned to power, but like the Creed family cat coming back from the Pet Sematary, they ain't quite right. Ayuh. On a Very Special Episode of 'Let's Be Treasonable,' Cognitive Dissidents Cat Alvarado, 'The Black Voice of Reason' Tymon Shipp, and Dr. David Robinson talk to Nicaraguan citizen "Carlos" about the populist party that devolved from representing the downtrodden to trodding on the underrepresented. Sound familiar? Frighteningly so.
